LM

With 12-bar blues, let us investigate the archetypes of witches and queens. Lady Macbeth stands in our midst as both. She is our world in small: a receiving vessel for the ambition, loneliness, and fear we carry and project. The story we see is ultimately an impression on the sand of her flesh.

I do not propose to re-tell Macbeth faithfully or to "do" Shakespeare correctly. Instead, I propose to bring the primal spell he casts to the foreground. While its’ progenitor is a tragedy in five acts, this script is a topographical map of the alchemy between two people. The cast of Macbeth is boiled down to four essential people and a stage manager. Macbeth, the Thane of Cawdor (TC in this script), Lady Macbeth (LM), Banquo and Fleance come together around a kitchen table at 3 am. They are armed with iambs, a Frigidaire, the blues, a dozen roses, a few crowns, a few beers and some blood.

Rather than tracking Mr. Macbeth’s descent act by act, we follow Lady Macbeth’s receipt of her husband and the supernatural world he brings into her kitchen.

It's a dark and stormy night at the castle .
